This blog site contains articles which I wrote during many years in practice as a general internist. Internists provide primary care for adults. It is a challenging role. We try to help people follow a healthy lifestyle and gracefully navigate the aging process. If our efforts are successful, we then get to help our patients and their families come to terms with end-of-life issues. The relationships internists develop with their patients are intense, meaningful, and can profoundly affect both the patient and the physician.
Most of these essays were written for an audience of health care workers, but hopefully they may be meaningful to others as well. They aim to convey some of what happens in the intimacy of the physician-patient relationship. I welcome your comments and feedback.
